 dying avocado tree arrived on timeOct 05, 2012

I ordered two avocado trees from Clifton Nursery. When they came, one looked like it was in shock but I think I have revived it as its getting new growth. The other one looked like it was dying but I still tried to revive it. The tips of the leaves arrived turning black and every new little nub of new growth turned black as soon as it popped out. I waited a week then called Cliftons Nursery and spoke to a fellow named John who was very unfriendly. He gave me every excuse in the book as to why the tree was doing that, then said call him back in two weeks and it'll probably be fine. Well, all the leaves have died and some of the branches have turned black and are dead. Yes, I'm going to call him back. It'll be interesting to see what he says again. The tree was a lot of money and the shipping was also. I think I should get a refund for both

Arrived looking half dead. Still hasn't perked up. Called but was brushed off by customer service. Maybe it will survive.

I ordered two dwarf avocado trees from Clifton's Nursery. One Holiday and one Little Cado. My Little Cado tree came tall and full of beautiful foliage and flowers, both in five gallon pots as described. The Holiday, though tall, had not a leaf on it, and looks a bit sickly. I know the Holiday produces flowers and fruit during the holiday season (Aug-Dec), so since it's not its season yet, and my Little Cado arrived gorgeous, I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. I will be updating this review if the tree dies or perks up. Hoping for the latter.
REVIEW UPDATE 5/15/13:
Ive changed my rating from 3 stars to 4 due to Clifton's Nursery customer service: My Holiday tree started to die, (branches turned black and started to curl inward) and I spoke with John about it. He was very helpful. Told me that it probably was a combination of starting with a sickly tree and probably some under-watering on my part. Since he's out of stock on the Holiday's at the moment, he offered to give me a ful refund tomorrow, and said if the tree does die completely, he should be getting more in Sept/Oct. I'm hoping I can nurse this little tree back to health before then, but if it doesn't recover I will definitely order another from Clifton's Nursery once they're ready.

We received this the other day. It was waiting by my door at 3 when I got back from work. It was 20 degrees outside but it was double-boxed and had styrafoam around the pot. It really couldn't have been packaged better. The leaves were coiled a bit but that went away after being in our greenhouse for a day. We planted it today in a greywater planter and look forward to seeing how it does. It looks great so far. I cut most of the ribbon that tie the stalk to the support steak and will cut the last two in a few months.
